Overview
Script Bible ("we," "us," or "our") is a Bible reading and study app. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the Script Bible app and the websites, software, and services that link to this Policy (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. Reading without an account is supported.
Information We Collect
You can read, search, and study the Bible without an account, and most of what the app remembers is stored only on your device. We collect the following information:
- Account information. If you register, we collect your name, email address, and credentials, along with email verification, password resets, and sessions. Registration is limited to users who are at least thirteen (13) years old.
- Reading activity. When you are signed in, we record the book, chapter, Bible version, duration, and timestamp for statistics and sync. We do not treat the text of verses you highlight as a separate analytics event.
- Your content and preferences. Bookmarks, notes, reading progress, reading plans, search history, Bible version, theme, and typography. This is stored on your device unless you sign in (so we can sync) or export it.
- Feedback you send. Category, message, optional name and email, page URL, and user agent. We deliver this to the operator by email and may copy it into a private issue tracker. We do not use feedback for marketing.
- Founder / mailing-list email. If you join the Founder waitlist on the homepage, we collect the email address you submit.
- Product analytics. An event name plus a small allowlisted set of properties (for example book, chapter, version, landing path, or UTM source). We store a per-device identifier in your browser, or use your account id when you are signed in. We do not send note text, search text, or other reader content to analytics.
- Technical information. Request metadata, browser and device details, IP address, and server logs used to operate the Service, debug, and prevent abuse. Search requests are ordinary HTTP requests; the query may appear in operational logs. We do not keep a separate marketing database of search queries.
- Cookies and storage. Listed in the next section.
How We Use Information
- To provide the Service.
- To save your preferences and sync your data when you are signed in.
- To send account emails (verification and password reset) and emails you opt into (release notes and reading reminders).
- To send Founder waitlist messages you requested.
- To understand aggregate product use through analytics.
- To keep the Service secure and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers. Vendors that help us run the Service, under agreements that restrict how they use the data. That includes Railway (hosting), Turso/libSQL (databases), Resend (email), PostHog (analytics, sent from our servers, not a PostHog browser script), Better Auth (authentication), and logging and security providers.
- Legal reasons. When required by law or legal process, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or the Service.
- Business changes. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or transfer of the Service, where the recipient agrees to handle your information consistent with this Policy.
Cookies, Local Storage, and Offline Data
The Service uses cookies, browser storage, and service worker caches:
- Session cookies to keep you signed in (HttpOnly Better Auth cookies).
- preferred-theme, preferred-version, preferred-reading-font, and last-reading-position cookies so the reader can restore comfort and place.
- Browser storage for notes, bookmarks, settings, search history, and reading progress.
- A per-device analytics id in localStorage.
- Service worker caches for offline chapters.
Clearing site data, or using in-app export and clear tools, removes on-device copies. Disabling cookies may break sign-in and restored reading position.
Data Retention
We keep account and activity data while your account is active and for a reasonable period after that for security and legal purposes. Data stored on your device stays there until you delete it. You can delete your account in Account → Security (password required) or by emailing hello@script.bible.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or withdraw consent where the law gives you that right. Residents of certain U.S. states have similar rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. To make a request, email hello@script.bible. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
- Export or clear data from the app's data panel.
- Sign out to end your session on a device.
- Unsubscribe from marketing or waitlist mail using the link in those emails.
- Turn off release notes and reading reminders in account preferences.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no online service is fully secure. Protect your password and the device you use to access the Service.
Children
Reading, searching, and studying the Bible through the Service is appropriate for users of any age, and most reading data stays on your device. Account registration is not available to children under thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen (13). If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it and remove the related account. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, email hello@script.bible.
International Use
The Service is operated from, and information may be processed in, countries other than where you live. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be handled in those locations under their data protection laws.
Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will update the date on this page. Significant changes may also be posted in the app or emailed to registered users. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the updated Policy.
