Overview
Script Bible ("we," "us," or "our") is a Bible reading and study app. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the Script Bible app and the websites, software, and services that link to this Policy (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Information We Collect
You can read, search, and study the Bible without an account, and most of what the app remembers is stored only on your device. We collect the following information:
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and credentials, along with related records such as email verification, password resets, and sessions.
- Reading activity. When you sign in, we may record the book, chapter, Bible version, reading duration, and timestamp of your reading so we can provide statistics and sync progress.
- Your content and preferences. Bookmarks, notes, reading progress, reading plans, search history, selected Bible version, theme, and typography. Most of this data is stored locally in your browser unless you sign in or export it.
- Technical information. Search queries, request metadata, browser and device details, IP address, and server logs that we use to operate the Service, fix problems, prevent abuse, and keep things secure.
- Cookies and storage. Cookies, browser storage, and service worker caches used for sign-in sessions, saved settings, app state, and offline access.
How We Use Information
- To provide and improve the Service.
- To save your preferences and sync your data when you are signed in.
- To send account-related emails such as verification and password reset.
- To produce aggregate, non-identifying statistics about app use.
- To keep the Service secure and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers. Vendors that help us run the Service, such as hosting, database, authentication, email, analytics, logging, and security providers, under agreements that restrict how they use the data.
- Legal reasons. When required by law or legal process, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or the Service.
- Business changes. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or transfer of the Service, where the recipient agrees to handle your information consistent with this Policy.
Cookies, Local Storage, and Offline Data
The Service uses cookies, browser storage, and service worker caches to keep you signed in, remember your settings, and work offline. This may include bookmarks, notes, reading progress, search history, settings, and cached chapter content. You can clear this data through your browser, and the app provides export and restore tools for supported categories. Disabling cookies or clearing storage may break some features.
Data Retention
We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after that for security, recordkeeping, and legal purposes. Data stored on your device stays there until you delete it or clear your browser. You can delete your account at any time by contacting us.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to withdraw consent. Residents of certain U.S. states have similar rights under state privacy laws, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. To make a request, contact us through the channel listed below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
- Export supported data from the app's data panel.
- Clear bookmarks, notes, progress, search history, and offline data in the app or browser.
- Sign out to end your session on a device.
- Disable cookies and browser storage (some features may stop working).
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no online service is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and the device you use to access the Service.
Children
Reading, searching, and studying the Bible through the Service is appropriate for users of any age, and most reading data stays on your device. Account registration, however, is not available to children under thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen (13). If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it and remove the related account. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us.
International Use
The Service is operated from, and information may be processed in, countries other than where you live. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be handled in those locations under their data protection laws.
Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. If the changes are significant, we will give notice by updating the date on this page, posting a notice in the app, or emailing registered users. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the updated Policy.
