Who or what is this?
Zoar was a small city at the southern end of the Valley, one of the original five cities of the plain originally called Bela (Genesis 14:2). When the angels warned Lot to flee before its destruction, Lot pleaded to be allowed to escape to Zoar rather than the hills, and God agreed to spare the city for his sake (Genesis 19:20–23). Lot entered Zoar just as fire and brimstone began to fall on Sodom and . Deuteronomy 34:3 places it in ' panoramic view of the land from . The prophets (15:5) and (48:34) mention Zoar in laments over , suggesting it lay near territory at the southern end of the .
