Who or what is this?

Originally the stronghold captured by and renamed the city of David, then extended as a name for mount and for as Yahweh's chosen dwelling. The Psalms exult in Zion as the city of the great King, the joy of the whole earth, and the place from which Yahweh roars. The prophets oscillate between mourning Zion's desolation, comforting her as a forsaken mother, and picturing the nations streaming to her mountain to learn Yahweh's ways.
