Who or what is this?
The Valley of Achor was a valley near where son of Carmi was taken after his theft of devoted things from the conquest of Jericho caused Israel's defeat at Ai ( 7). After Achan confessed, he and his family, his livestock, and all his possessions were brought to the valley and stoned and burned. Joshua named it the Valley of Achor, meaning 'trouble,' because of the trouble Achan had brought on Israel. The prophet later transforms the image, declaring that in a future restoration God will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope (Hosea 2:15), and similarly envisions it as a resting place for the redeemed (Isaiah 65:10).
