City in southern from which sets out with Abram, , and toward , settling in along the way. Genesis 15 and 9 recall it as the place from which Yahweh brought , and in Acts 7 traces the origins of the call from there. Its identification with the Chaldeans connects Abraham's beginnings to the same region from which the Neo-Babylonian empire later rises against .
