Who or what is this?
Taanach is an ancient city in the valley whose king was defeated by in the initial conquest (Joshua 12:21). Though allotted to within 's territory (Joshua 17:11; 1 Chronicles 7:29), Manasseh could not drive out the Canaanite inhabitants and they remained as forced labor (Judges 1:27). It was designated as a Levitical city (Joshua 21:25; 1 Chronicles 6:70) and was the site of the victory over celebrated in the Song of — 'the kings fought in Taanach by the waters of ' (Judges 5:19). It also appears in 's administrative lists (1 Kings 4:12).
