Who or what is this?
Shunem is a town in the territory of in the valley, appearing at several significant moments in Israel's history. The Philistines camped at Shunem before the battle of in which Saul and his sons died (1 28:4). 's aged servant , brought to warm him in his final days, was a Shunammite (1 Kings 1:3). Most prominently, the town is home to an unnamed 'great woman' who built a room for the prophet ; in return Elisha promised she would bear a son, and later raised that son from the dead (2 Kings 4:8–37). Elisha again helped the Shunammite woman recover her land after a seven-year famine.
