Seveneh (also known as Syene) is the city at Egypt's southern border, corresponding to the site of modern Aswan near the first cataract of the Nile. In 's oracles against Egypt, the prophet declares that the land will be made desolate 'from the tower of Seveneh even unto the border of ' (Ezekiel 29:10; 30:6), using Seveneh as the southernmost point to express the full extent of Egypt's coming devastation. The phrase 'from Migdol to Syene' thus functioned as an expression meaning from Egypt's northeastern frontier to its southern limit.
