Large inland salt lake at the south end of the Jordan valley, forming Canaan's eastern border and associated with the region of Sodom and Gomorrah.
What and where is this?
The Salt Sea (also called the Sea of the and known today as the Dead Sea) is the large hypersaline lake at the southern end of the valley, lying at the lowest point on earth's surface. It forms a significant eastern and southeastern border of in the tribal boundary descriptions of Numbers 34 and , with the Jordan flowing down into it. The cities of and are described as situated in the valley of Siddim, later identified with the region of the Salt Sea, which Genesis 14:3 equates with that valley. The prophets and Zechariah envisioned a future river flowing from that would heal its waters.
