Coastal region southwest of Israel organized around the five cities of , , , , and , dominated by the from the period of the judges through the monarchy. Its plain is the setting of 's exploits, the capture and return of the ark, and 's repeated wars from his time as a fugitive through his consolidation of the kingdom.
