Who or what is this?
Peor is a mountain or elevated site in to which King of Moab brought the seer , hoping he would curse Israel encamped in the plains below. From its summit Balaam instead delivered blessings over Israel four times (Numbers 23–24). The name is most prominently associated with the episode of Baal-Peor in Numbers 25, where men were drawn into sexual immorality and the worship of Baal at Peor — a sin that brought a plague killing twenty-four thousand and was referenced as a warning throughout later Scripture (Deuteronomy 4:3; Psalm 106:28; 9:10).
