Paddan Aram (also spelled Padan-Aram) is the region in upper associated with the city of , where settled with his family after leaving Ur. It is from here that sent his servant to find a wife for , and came to as the result of that journey. spends twenty years in Paddan Aram working for his uncle , taking and as wives and fathering eleven of his twelve sons before returning to Canaan. The region thus serves as the ancestral homeland of the patriarchal family and the origin point of the twelve tribes.
