Who or what is this?
A town appearing in two distinct tribal contexts in the Old Testament. In the territory of it is the hometown of the judge, where the angel of the Lord appears to him under the oak tree and commissions him to deliver Israel from Midian; it is also where Gideon later erects an ephod that becomes a snare to Israel and where he is eventually buried (Judges 6–8). A separate Ophrah is listed among the towns of in 18:23 and is mentioned in 1 13:17 as a destination of a raiding party.
