Great capital on the Tigris, founded according to Genesis 10 by and known in the prophets as an exceedingly large city of three days' journey. is sent there reluctantly with a forty-day warning, and from king to commoner the city fasts in sackcloth so that the threatened overthrow is averted. A century later announces its definitive downfall in vivid scenes of chariots and floodwaters, and pictures it abandoned with flocks lying down in its midst.
