Who or what is this?
Naioth was a place within or near associated with and a company of prophets. When fled from Saul, he went to Samuel at Ramah and the two of them went to Naioth (1 Samuel 19:18). Saul sent messengers three times to seize David there; each time the messengers encountered the company of prophets and the Spirit of God came upon them and they prophesied instead. Saul himself then went to Naioth, and the Spirit of God fell on him as well, causing him to strip off his robes and prophesy before Samuel all day and night — prompting the saying 'Is Saul also among the prophets?' The nature of Naioth — whether a settlement, a building complex, or a prophetic community — is not defined in the text.
