Michmash was a town in the territory of about seven miles north of , situated at a strategic pass through the hill country. It figures centrally in 1 13–14: after Saul mustered troops there against the Philistines, his nerve faltered and he offered an unlawful sacrifice, prompting Samuel's rebuke. then launched a daring solo raid with his armor-bearer against a garrison at the rocky pass of Michmash, triggering a divine panic that routed the Philistine camp. The town appears again after the exile as one of the places resettled by returning Benjaminites ( 11:31; 2:27).
