Medeba was an ancient city on the Transjordanian plateau east of the . It first appears in Numbers 21:30 as a site taken from the king by Israel during the wilderness period. It was allotted to the tribe of in 13. The city oscillated between , Moabite, and control; in 1 Chronicles 19 it is named as the place where the Ammonites and Aramaean mercenaries encamped when they prepared to fight 's forces. The Mesha Stele from , though extra-biblical, connects Medeba to ongoing Moabite territorial ambitions in the region.
