Who or what is this?
Maroth is mentioned once in the Bible, in 1:12, as part of the prophet's lament over a series of Judean towns in the face of imminent invasion. Micah uses a series of wordplays on place names; for Maroth he writes that its inhabitants 'waited carefully for good, but evil came down from the Lord unto the gate of .' The name may be related to the word for 'bitterness.' No further narrative or geographical detail about Maroth appears in the biblical text.
