Prosperous city in the Lycus valley of the province of , near and Hierapolis, known for banking, black wool, and an eye salve produced nearby. refers to it in Colossians, asking that his letter be read aloud there and that the one from Laodicea be read in Colossae. It is the last of the seven churches addressed in Revelation, rebuked as neither cold nor hot but lukewarm, rich in its own eyes but poor and blind, with standing at the door knocking.
