Kiriathaim in Transjordan appears in Numbers 32:37 and 13:19 as a city rebuilt and settled by the tribe of in the conquered territory. However, it also figures in the oracles of 48:1, 23 and 25:9 as a Moabite city facing judgment, indicating that eventually reclaimed or reoccupied it. Genesis 14:5 refers to a pre-Israelite settlement of the 'Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,' suggesting great antiquity for this site. The city lay in the plateau region east of the , an area where , Moabite, and Amorite histories overlapped.
