A distant location identified as the original homeland of the Syrians and the place of their exile under Assyrian conquest.
What and where is this?
Kir appears in the prophetic books as both origin point and place of exile for the Syrians (Arameans). Amos 9:7 states that God brought the Syrians up from Kir as he brought Israel out of Egypt, placing Kir in parallel with Egypt as a land from which God had directed migration. When the conquer , 2 Kings 16:9 records that carried the people of captive to Kir, fulfilling the oracle in Amos 1:5. Isaiah 22:6 also mentions Kir alongside among the nations joining the attack on . The exact geographical location of Kir remains uncertain; suggestions have ranged from regions in to areas near the Caucasus.
