The Kingdom of is the phrase uses — largely in place of and 's 'Kingdom of God' — to describe the sovereign rule of God that announces as having drawn near. It is the central subject of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus declares those poor in spirit blessed as its inheritors, and the theme of a long series of parables in Matthew 13 comparing it to a mustard seed, leaven, a treasure hidden in a field, and a dragnet. Jesus proclaims that it belongs to children, that it is harder for the rich to enter than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, and that is the greatest born of women yet the least in the kingdom is greater than he. In Acts and the epistles the concept continues as the framework for apostolic preaching about the age to come.
