A Transjordanian city in the Amorite territory of Sihon, later allotted to Reuben and assigned as a Levitical city.
Who or what is this?
Kedemoth is first mentioned in Deuteronomy 2:26, where sends messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to king of the requesting peaceful passage. Sihon's refusal leads to the battle in which Israel defeats him and takes his land. The region of Kedemoth thus marks the point of initial contact before Israel's Transjordanian campaigns. 13:18 assigns the city to the tribe of , and Joshua 21:37 and 1 Chronicles 6:79 list it as a Levitical city given to the Merarites from Reuben's territory, with its suburbs for pasturelands.
