Kain appears in Joshua 15:57 in the list of cities allotted to the tribe of , in the district associated with the highlands. It is a minor settlement known only from this territorial inventory. Some scholars associate the name with the (whose ancestor shares the same root in ), suggesting it may have been a settlement associated with that clan, consistent with the Kenite presence recorded elsewhere in southern Judah.
