What and where is this?
Jebus is the pre-Israelite name of the city held by the , identified with throughout the biblical text. Joshua 15:8 and 18:28 refer to 'Jebus, which is Jerusalem' in descriptions of tribal boundaries, indicating the Jebusites retained the city through the entire period of the judges. In Judges 19:10–11 a 's servant proposes stopping at Jebus on a journey but is refused because it is 'a city of strangers that are not of the children of Israel.' The city's capture is narrated in 2 Samuel 5:6–9 and 1 Chronicles 11:4–7, where takes the stronghold from the Jebusites — called Zion — and makes it the City of David.
