What and where is this?
Jattir is listed in Joshua 15:48 among the cities of the mountainous region of and assigned in Joshua 21:14 to the Aaronite priests as a Levitical city with its surrounding pasturelands. It reappears in 1 Samuel 30:27 as one of the elders of the cities to which sent a portion of the spoil recovered after the Amalekite raid on , a gesture of goodwill toward those who had supported him during his time as a fugitive. These references together situate Jattir as a priestly community in the highlands south of with longstanding ties to David.
