Mount Hermon is the highest peak in the region of ancient , rising at the northern edge of the Anti-Lebanon range and forming the northern boundary of territory as described in Deuteronomy and . The called it Sirion and the Amorites called it Shenir (Deuteronomy 3:9). Its streams feed the headwaters of the and it is praised in the psalms as a symbol of abundant blessing — 'as the dew of Hermon' (Psalm 133:3).
