A collection of small towns or villages in the region of and , east of the , captured and renamed by Jair son of during the conquest period. Numbers 32 records that Jair took the towns and called them Havvoth-jair ("villages of Jair"). Deuteronomy 3 mentions sixty cities, the whole region of Argob in Bashan, which Jair named after himself. The judge Jair the Gileadite in Judges 10 is also associated with thirty cities in Gilead called Havoth-jair. 1 Chronicles 2 also connects the name to a Jair of the tribe of .
