The site outside the walls of where was crucified, recorded in all four Gospels. Its Aramaic name means "Place of a Skull," rendered in Latin as Calvaria (Calvary). , , and John each give the name and its translation; refers to the place as "the skull" without the Aramaic term. The Gospels locate it outside the city, near a garden in which a new tomb had been cut, where Jesus' body was laid. The precise identification of the site has been debated, with both the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Gordon's Calvary proposed by different traditions.
