Who or what is this?

One of the four rivers described in Genesis 2 as branching from the single river that watered the . The text says the winds through the whole land of Cush, identifying it with the region south of . Unlike the Tigris and , which are identifiable waterways, the Gihon of Eden cannot be securely located, and it has been variously associated with rivers in Africa or the ancient Near East. It is distinct from the Gihon spring in , though both bear the same name.
