What and where is this?
Gennesaret refers both to a fertile plain on the northwest shore of the Sea of and to the lake itself, which Luke 5 calls the Lake of Gennesaret. The plain of Gennesaret was renowned in antiquity for its productivity. In Matthew 14 and Mark 6, and the disciples land at Gennesaret after his walking on water, and crowds from the surrounding region bring their sick to be healed at his touch. The name "Gennesaret" for the lake appears as a distinct designation alongside the more common "Sea of Galilee" and the later "Sea of ."
