Who or what is this?
The name given by to the heap of stones raised as a covenant marker between himself and at the conclusion of their treaty in (Genesis 31). Jacob called the pile Galeed, meaning "heap of witness" in , while Laban named it Jegar Sahadutha in Aramaic — both conveying the same meaning. The heap and a standing pillar beside it were to serve as a boundary and a witness that neither party would pass over to harm the other, and the place was also called because Laban invoked God to watch between them when they were apart.
