Who or what is this?
A port city on the shore of the (the Gulf of Aqaba) in the territory of Edom, serving as an important maritime base for rulers. built a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber with the assistance of Phoenician sailors provided by king of , and from there the fleet sailed to to bring back gold (1 Kings 9). Jehoshaphat later attempted to revive this maritime trade at the same port, but the ships were wrecked before they could sail to Ophir (1 Kings 22). The site also appears in the wilderness itinerary as a stopping place of the Israelites during the Exodus. The name is also spelled Eziongeber and Eziongaber in the KJV.
