A town in the , the lowland foothills between the Judean hill country and the coastal plain, originally within the territory allotted to and subsequently assigned to the . Eshtaol is best known in the narrative of : Judges records that the Spirit of the Lord began to move Samson between Zorah and Eshtaol, and after his death his body was brought and buried there in the tomb of his father . The town also appears in Judges 18 as the staging point from which Danite scouts and then six hundred armed men set out on their northward migration to seize .
