A valley and its brook in the hill country of , near , where the twelve spies sent by cut down an enormous cluster of grapes to carry back to the in the wilderness. Numbers 13 records that and his companions brought back this cluster as evidence of the land's remarkable fertility, along with pomegranates and figs, and the valley was named — meaning "cluster" — in memory of that moment. The brook of Eshcol is also referenced in the itinerary of Numbers 32 and Deuteronomy 1 as Moses recounts the episode to the people.
