Who or what is this?
Elath is a port city on the Gulf of Aqaba, at the northern tip of the , important for maritime trade. Deuteronomy 2:8 mentions it as a place Israel passed by during the wilderness wanderings. King (Azariah) of rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah (2 Kgs 14:22; 2 Chr 26:2) after it had apparently been lost. Later, in the reign of , Rezin king of drove the Judahites out and the Syrians came to dwell there (2 Kgs 16:6), marking the end of Judah's hold on this strategic port.
