The plain of Dura is mentioned in 3:1 as the location in the province of where king of Babylon set up a golden image sixty cubits high and six cubits wide. He summoned all the officials of his empire to its dedication and commanded that all people fall down and worship when they heard the music. , , and refused and were thrown into the fiery furnace, from which they emerged unharmed, prompting Nebuchadnezzar to acknowledge the power of the God of Israel. The plain of Dura appears only in this passage.
