Who or what is this?
Cyrene was a prominent city on the North African coast, in the region called Libya Cyrenaica (modern northeast Libya), with a substantial Jewish community. The New Testament records of Cyrene as the man compelled by soldiers to carry of as he walked toward (Matt 27:32; 15:21; 23:26). Acts 2:10 includes Cyrenians among those present at , and Acts 6:9 mentions a synagogue of the Cyrenians in whose members disputed with . A Cyrenian named Lucius is listed among the prophets and teachers at (Acts 13:1).
