Who or what is this?
Chephirah is one of the four cities — along with , , and — whose inhabitants tricked into making a peace treaty with them (Josh 9:17). When the deception was discovered, Joshua honoured the oath but made them servants, woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation. After , Chephirah is listed in 2:25 and 7:29 among the places whose former inhabitants returned to , with 743 people recorded. It was allotted to the tribe of (Josh 18:26).
