Bethphage is a small village on the , positioned between and . All three Synoptic Gospels name it as the place from which sent two disciples ahead to obtain the colt for his triumphal entry into (Matt 21:1; Mark 11:1; Luke 19:29). The village's location on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, along the road from , meant that the procession would descend toward the city in full view of the crowds gathered for — fulfilling Zechariah's prophecy of a king coming humbly on a donkey.
