It gains particular note in 2 Chronicles 11:7, where King strengthens it as one of the fifteen cities he fortifies to defend Judah after the kingdom divides. It reappears in Nehemiah 3:16, where Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth Zur, helps repair the wall of , indicating it remained an administrative center through the post-exilic period.
