Who or what is this?

City in the plain of where the descendants of 's sons gather to build a city and a tower with its top in the heavens. The Lord confuses their language and scatters them over the face of the earth, giving the city its name from the word for confusion. Genesis 10 identifies Babel as one of the cities of 's early kingdom along with Erech and Accad, and the later prophets identify it with the that figures so large in Israel's exile.
