What and where is this?
A city in the Negeb whose king heard of Israel's approach and attacked them, taking some captive (Numbers 21:1). Israel vowed to God that if delivered they would utterly destroy the Canaanite cities, and after victory the place was called , meaning "devoted to destruction." In Joshua 12:14 the king of is listed among the thirty-one kings defeated. Judges 1:16 records that the descendants of ' father-in-law settled in the wilderness of near Arad. The city later appears in the catalogue of Judah's southern towns (Joshua 15:21).
