Who or what is this?
The long desert valley or rift running roughly north-south through the heart of the Levant, from the (Sea of ) in the north through the to the Gulf of Aqaba in the south. The term is used in several senses in the Bible: the Valley and Dead Sea depression (the "Sea of the Arabah," Deuteronomy 3:17; 4:49), the arid zone south of the Dead Sea, and more broadly as a description of wilderness terrain. Israel camped in the plains of by the Arabah before crossing the Jordan (Numbers 22:1), and Deuteronomy and repeatedly use it as a geographic reference point. 6:14 speaks of "the entering in of unto the river of the wilderness (Arabah)" as the width of Israel's domain.
