Who or what is this?
A fortified city in the region of east of the Sea of , associated with (Aramean) military power. The most prominent episode at this Aphek is in 1 Kings 20, where the Arameans, having been defeated by Israel in the hill country, regroup on the plain near Aphek believing Israel's god was a god of hills only — but Israel routes them again and the city wall collapses on twenty-seven thousand of the survivors. Later, prophesies over the dying King Joash of Israel that he will strike the Arameans at Aphek (2 Kings 13:17).
