What and where is this?

A city in the coastal plain or where forces assembled on two pivotal occasions. In 1 Samuel 4, the Philistines camp at Aphek before the battle in which Israel is routed and the is captured, with Eli's sons and killed. Later in 1 Samuel 29, the Philistine lords gather their forces at Aphek again before the battle of ; it is here that and his men, who had been living among the Philistines, are sent back to . The city was part of the territory not yet fully subdued at the time of 's old age (Joshua 13:4).
