Priestly town in the territory of a few miles north of , assigned to the in the conquest. the priest is banished there by , and centuries later it becomes the hometown of the prophet , son of Hilkiah. The men of Anathoth plot against Jeremiah's life, and in a famous sign-act he buys a field there from his cousin Hanamel during the siege as a pledge that houses and fields will again be bought in the land.
