Who or what is this?
An ancient city in the lowlands of , first mentioned in Genesis 38 as the home of Hirah, the friend of Judah. records a king of Adullam among those defeated in the conquest (Joshua 12:15). Its most celebrated feature is the cave where fled from King Saul and where his band of four hundred men gathered around him (1 22:1–2); the location is revisited when David's mighty men break through lines to bring him water from 's well during a Philistine encampment at Adullam (2 Samuel 23:13–17). The city was later fortified by (2 Chronicles 11:7) and reoccupied after the exile ( 11:30).
