Midianite king slain in the Israelite war against Midian, also identified as the father of Cozbi who was killed by Phinehas at Baal-peor.
Who is this?
Zur was one of the five kings of Midian whom sent the to fight in the punitive campaign described in Numbers 31. All five kings — Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and — were slain in battle alongside son of Beor. Zur is additionally identified as the father of Cozbi, the Midianite woman who was killed along with the Israelite Zimri son of Salu by at Baal-peor (Numbers 25). His name recurs in Joshua 13 in a summary list of the Midianite leaders defeated by Israel.
