A king of Midian who fled with Zebah after Gideon's rout of their army, was captured beyond the Jordan, and was personally executed by Gideon for killing his brothers, as recounted in Judges 8.
Who or what is this?
Zalmunna was a king of Midian who, together with his co-king Zebah, commanded an enormous host that had oppressed Israel. After 's three hundred men routed the Midianite camp with torches and trumpets, Zebah and Zalmunna fled east across the with fifteen thousand survivors. Gideon pursued them beyond the Jordan, captured them at Karkor, and brought them back to . When Gideon learned that they had personally killed his brothers at Tabor, he executed them himself rather than delegating the task to his young son Jether. He also seized the crescent ornaments from their camels' necks. The account is told in Judges 8, and both kings are also mentioned in Psalm 83 as ancient enemies of Israel.
